Zion Williamson hopes to have a break out year

(BlackPressRadio.net) – Zion Wiliamson’s rookie year was a bust. Filled with injuries, $100 million lawsuits and legal battles, fans of Zion felt a bit cheated. It feels like Zion realized that he didn’t give the Rookie Year performance that so many were expecting – even after COVID ravaged the season – but he’s planning to make up for it.

In the last couple of years, Zion Williamson has risen to the top as one of the most exciting players to watch. That has seen Williamson translate that into tremendous early success in his NBA career with the New Orleans Pelicans. However, that has also seen him get engulfed into a $100 million lawsuit that has been an ongoing case over the last several months with the former agency that briefly represented him. It has now seen another hurdle come about from the entire situation.

Tangled in a web of lawsuits for nearly six months, New Orleans Pelicans star and former Duke sensation Zion Williamson won a jurisdictional ruling in Florida that reverses a lower court’s previous order that denied his motion to dismiss a lawsuit against him brought forth by Gina Ford and Prime Marketing. Williams was sued earlier this year by Ford for $100 million in damages for breaching a contract and was asked to admit to alleged impermissible benefits accepted before signing with Duke in 2019.

According to court papers, Ford served Williamson with requests for admission that he received “money, benefits, favors or other things of value” to attend Duke and wear or use Nike or choose an Adidas-sponsored school. Williamson originally signed with Prime Sports after he left Duke, but filed a lawsuit to terminate the five-year contract.

In June, a judge ruled Williamson must answer all eligibility-related questions in court, but litigation was later halted. In a new court filing later in the summer, Ford, Williamson’s former agent, strengthened her claims he received money to attend Duke University and was “permanently ineligible” to be a student-athlete within the basketball program.
